Can you become a linguist reservist in the Air Force?

Becoming a linguist in military/government agency?

I am enlisted in the Marines right now in infantry, but want to become a linguist eventually. I got a 99 on the ASVAB and a 142 on the DLAB. My command is giving me a lot of trouble about switching over because they need infantrymen so badly, so I might have to wait until time for reenlistment time to make the transition. Would I be able to go to college and then become an officer, with my job guaranteed to be linguist, or can you only have your jobs guaranteed to you if you are enlisted? If you don't already speak a foreign language, can you work for a government agency like the CIA and have them teach you a new language? If so, how would that work out and how would you apply and qualify for that? Would I be able to join the Airforce Reserves as a linguist? Can you become a linguist reservist in the Air Force?
The simple answer: Yes.

With a college degree, the path to becoming an officer is open to you.

I recommend you go to an Air Force Recruiter near you. It's been my experience that they are really good at their jobs, and they will give you the straight poop on what it would take to have a Linguist/Interpreter AFSC, as well as any supplementary schools you may need. Can you become a linguist reservist in the Air Force?
1, There are no Officer linguists fields.

The closest would be Intelligence.

2. As with any Reserve job,not all jobs are available.

You have to find a Reserve unit, that has linguist on thier manning table.

3. Foreign language ability is not a pre req for the CIA.

But you do need a college degree first.
The airforce and other branches do offer language training, though I doubt the reserves would teach you they'd expect you to have that skill before you got the job. They have been known to make exceptions though. Speak to the airforce, they'll help, your current command will only try and stop you switching.
Officers are not linguists. the only Officers who would use language regularly would be Embassy Staff or other specifically coded jobs.
Check with an Air Force Recruiter near you.
